For a long time I’ve struggled finding a solution to my lack of closet in my bedroom. Since it is technically not a bedroom, it doesn’t have a closet and there is no extra room to create one. Therefore, I decided to stick with the only other option I thought possible… a free standing wardrobe.
The first one I purchased lasted about 2 months.
The cheap metal couldn’t support the weight of my clothes, especially in the fall & winter with all my heavy sweaters and blazers, and one night just fell over. So, I went to option 2.
This wardrobe was more visually pleasing, but only lasted this way for a few months, then turned into this…
And of course, this option also wasn’t able to withstand the weight of my clothes, and it too, fell over in the middle of the night and the middle bar began to bend down.
I tried to deal with it by attaching it to the wall using zip ties, but eventually said screw it and looked for other options.
So, in preparation for fall, I decided to upgrade my closet situation. I found these Adjustable Clothes Bars on Amazon that got good reviews and decided to give them a try. I bought 3 of them, two for the top and one below to hold pants and skirts.
I’m really loving how this is working out. I can fit more clothes out and it doesn’t feel as cluttered in my room as it did before. So far, they’ve also held up very well and have been able to hold all of my clothes without bending or falling out of the wall.
The other problem I was running in to, was the lack of shoe storage. For now, I just took an old bookcase and am using that for storage, but eventually I would like to find a better solution. If you have an shoe storage ideas I’d love to hear them!
Here are some more closet alternatives I found while searching the web…
